Threadfin Shad for Sale
Best for most bass & multi-species pondsThreadfin shad are the single most popular open-water forage fish for private ponds — and for good reason. They stay small, feed on plankton their entire lives, and reproduce fast, turning your pond's natural productivity into a steady supply of perfectly bite-sized bait for bass, crappie, and hybrids.

Why threadfin work in most ponds
Because adult threadfin rarely exceed 6 inches, even a one-pound bass can eat them. That keeps forage available to fish of every size class and means threadfin almost never overpopulate the way larger baitfish can — predators keep them in balance naturally.
Plankton into pounds
Threadfin are filter feeders, eating phytoplankton and zooplankton for life. They convert the microscopic productivity of your water directly into high-protein forage, adding far more total pounds of food to your fishery than bottom- and structure-oriented bluegill can alone.
What they need to thrive
Threadfin do best in fertile, plankton-rich water with an established bluegill base already in place. They're cold-sensitive, so in the warmer parts of our service area they'll often sustain themselves year to year, while colder ponds may benefit from spring restocking.
All our shad are wild-caught and hauled live in aerated, temperature-controlled tanks. Not sure threadfin shad is the right fit? Tell us about your pond and we’ll steer you right.
